What's my motivation here?

Ministry partners…

I wanted to share some insights provided out of a recently enjoyed message from Bill Hybels (Willow Creek Association) on Inspiration. I’ll share 10 motivational activities for your intake as you continue in ministry. Be encouraged. Be smart. Belong to the presence of God in all situations.

1. Stay crystal clear about your calling from God. (Are you praying for God’s clarity of call in your life? You may be where you belong. You may not be.)
2. Leverage your spiritual gifts the way God gave them to you. (Do you know your spiritual gifts? Are you working in the area of your gifting and allowing others to work where you are weak? Are you paying attention to the body of Christ?)
3. Make sure the players on your team are inspiring people. (Are your volunteers inspiring other volunteers, students, parents? Are they draining them?)
4. Read inspiring books. (A leader is a learner. You will align with what you are reading…including and especially the word of God)
5. Make a point to rub shoulders with exceptionally inspiring people every now and then. (Are there people in your life that you get pumped spending time with? Make it a priority to do so from time to time.)
6. Participate in exceptionally inspiring events. (We will be participating in the CORE, March 29th and the National Youth Workers Convention in November. Are you making time for other times for inspiration on a daily basis?)
7. Pay attention to your working environment. (We have a team that will be working to re-design our youth/kids offices. What about our youth rooms? Do they inspire and communicate our vision? How about your work space at home? Are there reminders of why you do what you do? Is there a place where you come back to the vision God has laid on your heart? )
8. Pay attention to physical disciplines. (Are you caring for your body? Talk to Becky (Paul’s wife)…she’ll hook you up with a healthy nutrition plan. Get on the treadmill. Your body is the temple. Care for it.)
9. Have an inspiring recreational life outside your work world. (What are you reading for pleasure? What is your hobby…or can you remember? When was the last time you saw a movie, played cards, took a nap?)
10. Practice daily spiritual disciplines that keep your faith fresh. (Are you studying the bible, memorizing scripture, fasting, praying, spending time with other believers, etc?)

May God continue to lead you into His presence each day. What you do matters. Don’t give up. Your friend in ministry. Paul

Just getting started with the comment thing...the ideas presented by Hybels are designed to work within our calling. I was amazed while in college at how many people did not know what their ministry calling was - and, if you ask many people today, few would be able to tell you why they were created. However, these ideas serve as a tool to refine, discover, and develop the ideas that God calls us to a type of life, and (possibly) a type of vocation if we listen to his voice. Without taking the time to listen, many people never truly discover who they were made to be. Great assessment tool.
