"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field." Matthew 13:44
I teach a fantastic group of adults in the subject of "Biblical Perspectives in Business Management". We discovered this past week that the bottom line for the course was this: "Be the image of God in your workplace". How did we get from here to there? When we, in discussion, realized what we had lost through our sin nature.
The reality is that we once lived in that field and possessed the treasure...but that treasure was covered up with our selfish pride and cheating heart. In other words we cheated on our friendship with God and prioritized our friendship with our self. God's purpose for our lives was to live, breath, walk, and talk with Him in the garden of Eden. God's purpose for my life is that I enjoy and worship my God-friend.
Because of sin, I have lost that friendship...but because of Jesus, I have access back into friendship, because of the Holy Spirit's indwelling presence through faith, and that friendship is restored, treasure found, uncovered, recreated, regenerated, because of God's amazing love.
A good teacher learns from his students. Thanks guys!
I love what the apostle Paul has to say about this in Philippians 3:8 "Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes from Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith that I may know Him and the power of his resurrection (treasure found), and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead."
